God speaks to us through our thoughts and emotions. We often have irrational expectations that we will hear an audible voice if God is trying to communicate with us. At least I know I have been guilty of this. I have prayed and prayed for God to listen to me and to kindly answer me back. I have pleaded. “Please God, answer me….Please God, solve this problem”. If I am being honest, I tend to want God to answer the question or solve the problem using the plan I would most prefer. God is not a genie in a bottle granting our wishes, but he does, in fact, hear us and communicate with us. He knows our thoughts before we do, he knows our hearts when we can’t connect, and he uses impressions of thought and emotion to guide our journey.

We don’t have to hide our thoughts or emotions from God. In fact, he encourages us to talk through them with him. This helps us connect with him and get to know the mind of God. These conversations with God (the reason for creating this site and naming it Coffee Thoughts) have become the most intimate and peaceful part of my day. I am far from perfect at this. I get busy, I get stressed, I get scheduled for early morning meetings at work, I get too much in my ego….. I am human…But there is nothing I love more than to grab a coffee and have a chat with God.

Psalm 139: 1-2

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
